In an effort to save Teamster jobs at Yellow Roadway Corporation Worldwide (YRCW), Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa did what most people today in Washington are fearful of doing: taking on Wall Street. Not only did Hoffa take on Wall Street, he won.
And Hoffa's unflinching manner should be a blueprint for Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, Terry Keenan wrote in her Jan. 9th column for The New York Post. Keenan suggests to Geithner that he needs to "start channeling your inner Jimmy Hoffa."
"Yes, Hoffa -- James P. Hoffa, that is -- the current Teamsters boss and the one man who has stared down Goldman Sachs and the big-money crowd on Wall Street and come out a winner. While our Treasury Secretary has been busy covering the friendly tracks he laid as NY Fed Chief, in recent weeks Hoffa has showed Lloyd Blankfein and Co. who's boss -- and did so without even breaking a sweat."
It's a great article, one that showcases how Hoffa unflinchingly stood up to a Wall Street giant to protect Teamster jobs at YRC.
